Journaling

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love to journal. I write every day. I’ve been doing it since I was 10 years old. It’s a part of my routine. It’s who I am. I find that it’s become a source of comfort and allows me to reflect when a decision needs to be made, provides a safe space for me to vent when upset, and it’s a place for me to record the events of my life good and bad, happy and sad.

In addition to journaling, I have scrapbooks and memory boxes and way too many photos. Thankfully I went digital beginning in 2007, otherwise I’d need another house to store them all! But I am guilty of printing out the best of photos each year to create a photo album or two…

I’m always in search of the perfect journal and choose it based on color, design and texture. Texture is so important because how the pen feels on the paper makes all the difference. It’s a bonus if it includes inspirational quotes. I also enjoy using journals that are filled with prompts and activities.

I have an exercise that I want to share with you focusing on everyday magic. It’s all around us and we need to remind ourselves to stop and look for it. So, grab your phone and take pictures of these ordinary beautiful things.

  • Steam rising from a cup of coffee or tea
  • A flower growing from a crack in the sidewalk
  • A book cover that makes you smile
  • Your favorite flower
  • Your coziest sweater
  • A beautiful journal
  • Sun streaming through a window
  • Something that is beautifully worn and distressed

Once you’ve taken these pictures, create an album on your phone allowing you to view and share them any time you’d like. I hope you have fun doing this exercise. I will share my photos with you next week!

These are a few of the journals I am currently using.
