In one’s life we chase a light,
We grasp at stars with all our might.
We long for wealth, for love, for fame,
To make our mark, to stake our claim.
We base our hopes and deepest pleasures,
In a constant pursuit of all life’s treasures.
We look to gain power, beauty, and grace,
To climb the mountain and win the race.
But in this quest for all we seek,
We find the truth, both bold and meek.
For having it all is not defined,
By riches, fame, or grand design.
True fortune comes from friendships dear,
In love from family, that’s crystal clear.
In moments shared, in laughter’s ring,
In simple joys that life can bring.
Having it all is to be content,
In every moment, freely spent.
To cherish what we hold so dear,
And let our hearts be ever clear.
For in the end, when all is done,
It’s not the trophies or what was won,
But love and kindness, hand in hand,
That truly helps us understand.
So let us not focus on what we gain,
But to give, to love, to ease the pain.
For in that giving, we shall find,
The richest treasures of mankind.

Just beautiful, Lisa. The next Helen Steiner Rice!
