Recounting The Year

As the year 2021 comes to a close, I like to take moments in between the hustle and bustle of planning for the holidays to reflect on the events of the year. This is a ritual I have done every year for as long as I can remember. I look through the scrapbooks I created from vacations and special events. I go through the memory box of memorabilia of the year which contains items such as ticket stubs, programs and cards. I scroll through the thousands of photos taken and read through countless journal entries. I think of it as a history lesson of my life and a learning tool of what went really well and what needs some tweaking.

In 1999, I received an email from one of my best friends and attached was a list of questions titled “Recounting the Year.” I read through it and immediately knew I was going to add this to my list of end-of-the-year rituals. It’s a great way to remember all the things that made the year stand out to me and jogs my memory of things I may have forgotten. It’s also a nice conversation starter at the dinner table.

I have created and attached a pdf of this document to share as a gift to you. I hope you will take a few moments to recount your precious memories…
