Let’s talk about journaling.
Do you have a journal?
If so, do you journal on a regular basis?
What’s the purpose of journaling for you?
If you don’t, have you ever given any thought to journaling?
I ask these questions because as many of you know, journaling is very important to me. I write every single day. It’s part of my daily routine. It is something I look forward to and is a great way to help me unwind and destress.
I have many different journals because through the years, I have learned that I need to compartmentalize my writings.
- I have a journal that I use everyday to reflect on my day and highlight special occasions and events and will often include pictures. It has a pocket on the back cover which allows me to add any memorabilia I may have from an event.
- I have a journal for research, for things that I am interested in learning about or writing about.
- I have a pros and cons journal for the times I need to make a really important decision.
- I have a recounting the year journal which has become so important to me over the years.
- I have a journal specifically about me and my husband that I began when we started dating and have continued to update it through the years.
- And finally, I have my venting journal to write down all the things I’m thinking and feeling and know I should never say out loud.
Through the years, my journals have been a source of comfort for me and have helped me make some really big decisions. They have also been a great resource of my life. I can look back and see what I was doing and thinking and feeling. It makes me laugh out loud, shake my head sometimes because I wonder what was going through my head, but most importantly reflect on the life I have made for myself and for my family.
Please share your thoughts on journaling. I can’t wait to hear from you!

Dear Lisa—
Wow! Thanks for teasing out all the possible uses for journaling, and in so doing you help some of us recognize the possible benefits for US, depending on our individual needs!
So, although I feel I never have enough time to dedicate to journaling, your post has led me to think about how journaling could actually be a grounding practice that could enhance/bolster everything else that I do! So thank you for this thoughtful post, Lisa… perhaps I’ll start posting after all!
I’m so glad you liked it and I’m excited to hear that I may have inspired you to begin journaling!!
