Play Music On The Porch Day

This Saturday is Play Music On The Porch Day. I heard about this a few years ago during the height of the pandemic and thought it was a fantastic idea. Their question raised is, “What if for one day everything stopped, and we all just listened to the music?”

It was founded in 2013 by Los Angeles based artist Brian Mallman, promoting an international day of peace through music. This event happens on the last Saturday in August in over 70 countries and over 1,000 cities worldwide. Mallman’s book Play Music on the Porch Day is beautifully illustrated and explores stringed instruments from around the world.

The message for Play Music On The Porch Day is, “The passion for music is powerful and universal. When you pick up your instrument and start to play, the world disappears, and you get lost in the sounds. Music ties us together like a thread through our hearts. Our skin is many colors but music is our blood, our bones and our soul.” I absolutely love this!!

So, this Saturday, I have decided to participate in this amazing event and will be outside singing and playing my flute. If you love music as much as I do, I hope you’ll take a moment and go outside to listen to music, sing one of your favorite songs or play an instrument.
